Mental skills

Another essential yet often underemphasized area in surgical training is the development of mental skills. While technical proficiency and theoretical knowledge are prioritized, the ability to manage stress, maintain focus, and make sound decisions under pressure is equally critical for surgical success. These mental skills include techniques such as mindfulness, visualization, and resilience-building, which enable surgeons to navigate complex procedures and unexpected challenges with confidence and precision. Despite their importance, mental skills are rarely a core component of traditional surgical education, highlighting a need for a more holistic approach to training that integrates these critical competencies.
